SHM demonstrations, applications & obstacles.

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) has been around and discussed for three decades if not even more. Much has been and still is researched, demonstrated and possibly applied. However, the latter is very limited, despite numerous attempts and claims. What are the obstacles, which have led to this situation? This special session will try to give an answer in the way that speakers are encouraged to present papers, in which either demonstrations for the application or even true applications of SHM have been realized. The session will be completed with a discussion with the presenters on the panel, where the obstacles of SHM application will be discussed and which future steps may have to be taken such that applicability of SHM can be significantly enhanced.
